Bringing the connected kitchen of 2020 to reality.
The Intention
Handmade, a product invention studio in Amsterdam was asked by IKEA to develop ideas of a kitchen for the near future. We then would take those ideas and build a prototype. The idea was to utilize induction heating with tools and kitchenware sensed by an IKEA system.
Our prototype used a projected user interfaces around a moveable “puck” or tangible interface and other tools that could be sensed using a camera overhead.

Final Prototype
The key element of our prototype was a moveable puck which controlled how users engaged with a recipe.
Initial interaction and visual design
Our prototype included a custom-built cutting board, which served a dual-purpose as a fully-functioning scale.
